14th Century Costumes

1350s Velvet Overdress & Accessories

3 piece ensemble based off images & architechural finds from the mid 14th century. Outfit includes gown, overdres and dagged liripie hood. Based off of illuminations in the Romance of Alexander. Hand sewn buttonholes & handmade cloth buttons.

Gown- Red wool, silk thread
Overdress- Yellow cotton velvet, lined in white silk
Hood- Green wool melton, lined in wool flannel. Silk embroidery stitches.

Silk for the lining was hand dyed using natural madder dye.

Stitching was careful to keep within the medieval standard of 2-5mm

Silk headband woven on a period accurate band loom.

1310 French Noblewoman's outfit

4 piece ensemble based off images & architechural finds from the early 14th century. Outfit includes chemise, gown, lined surcoat, and woven headband. Entirely hand sewn, with effort to use as accurate stitching techniques as possible. Check out the blog post for more in depth information!

Dagged Hood & Gown

Based off images in the Romance of Alexander, Britain, 1338-1344.

Handmade fabric buttons, hand-worked eyelets, and hand embroidery on the hood.

"Saint Birgitta" Cap, Veil, & Wimple

Based off an archeological find from 13th century Sweden, and manuscript images & effigies from the 14th century.

Entirely hand sewn, featuring a decorative interlaced herringbone stitch.

Wimple- Silk with silk thread

Due to the active nature of recreational combat, these garments were machine finished with modern thread

Cote was hand dyed with modern methods and seams were finished by hand. Hand-worked buttonholes in wool thread, handmade brass buttons

Supportive gown

Based off a number of mid-14th century images & effigies. Designed to be self-supportive of the bust area, eliminating need for a modern bra to be worn under for the desired silhouette.

Dress is hand finished with felled seams with hand worked buttonholes & eyelets. Fabric was hand dyed with modern methods.

Wool with silk thread & pewter buttons

This is a collection of garments designed for 14th century historical reenactment. These garments have been carefully made with a strong emphasis on historical accuracy, utilizing authentic materials, traditional techniques, and extensive research of extant textiles, manuscript images, and effigies.

From the choice of fabrics that align with historical counterparts to the use of traditional stitching techniques, every aspect has been thoughtfully considered. By studying extant textiles, manuscript images, and effigies, these recreations provide valuable insights into the fashion and cultural practices of the time.
